In keeping with the theme of 10 Years of Memories, last week presented the perfect opportunity to reflect back on 10 years of snow days and wintertime fun.
It wasn't until I switched to the world of working on a college campus that I realized how much I missed not having to go to work because of too much snow or bad winter weather. But last week I received my wish for snow days once again when Mount Pleasant was hit by a blizzard, dumping 18.5" of snow and creating huge drifts which literally snowed us into our house. The campus closed at 2:00 on Tuesday and all day Wednesday. Many of the businesses, even Bailey's daycare which has never closed in 23 years, was able to enjoy a snow day. The picture above shows Bailey surfing a snow drift behind our house which definitely replicated a wave about to crash into our back door. Although the snow drifts and ice covered roads are somewhat inconvenient in traveling normal routes, I like to think of it as an opportunity to slow down and enjoy Mother Nature.
Bailey's first snow day in Sumner
She's fallen and can't get up (which she did not think was much fun at all at this age)
Playing in the snow during another big snowfall in Sumner
After moving to Mount Pleasant and living in an apartment for a couple years, it was a while before we had a yard to play in. Last winter Bailey made the most of having a back yard to play in and created this snowman which we named Carrots.
This patch of ice provided entertainment for quite a while
Winter Storm 2011
This hill in our front yard was great for sledding.
